"Some men collect cars," Vanessa DeLeon says. "I collect bags."
The petite powerhouse who owns Vanessa DeLeon Associates has an eye for big style and should not be underestimated by her small frame.
Describing her personal style as uptown Fifth Avenue meets Soho chic, she gravitates toward the classics and cannot get enough of Chanel.
"There is nothing more classic and timeless than Chanel," she says. "I also respect her as the businesswoman she was."
When it comes to handbags and shoes, DeLeon likes designer pieces.
"I don't really buy trendy, hip bags of the moment, because they get dated really fast," she says. "If I'm going to invest, I'm investing in timeless bags that I will be able to wear 20 years from now."
Wearing a size 4 shoe is another reason she leans toward European designers, since their sizes come smaller than most. Her closet room is lined with shelves that display boots, pumps and sandals from Christian Louboutin to Salvatore Ferragamo, Hermès, Chanel and many in between.
"I love wearing fabulous Chanel statement sunglasses with a pair of ripped jeans and sneakers," she says. "I'm a big fan of mixing and matching price points."
A button-down shirt from Target with a toile jacket from Chanel is a perfect example of the effortlessly chic style DeLeon loves. Her understated elegance is not only reflected in her wardrobe choices, but in her home décor and her clients' décor as well.
DeLeon has designed interiors all over Bergen County, New York City and beyond for more than 14 years.
"I live by my triple D motto," she says. "Drive, dedication and discipline."
Those three words have helped DeLeon power her way to the top. Having a comedic side and a passion for entertaining others, combined with her knack for interior design, drove her to ham it up on camera multiple times. In 2006 she was on HGTV's Design Star, and she has just finished the first season of NBC's American Dream Builders. She has been seen on several programs and featured in countless magazines and newspapers, including (201) and (201) Home.
DeLeon enjoys the lifestyle Edgewater has to offer.
"It's the perfect combination of suburbia and urban living," she says. "Edgewater totally matches my personality."
When she isn't beautifying someone else's home or restaurant, she enjoys spending time with her family, fiancé and three dogs, Gucci, Fendi and her newest addition, Dolce.
DeLeon and fiancé, Bobby, will wed this month at Cipriani 42nd Street.
