Grant Marshall is in his third year as a member of the New Jersey Devils Alumni Association, where he continues to be an active participant in the organization’s charitable foundation Devils Care, along with team initiatives such as School Assembly Program, Read Across America, hospital visits, alumni charity ice hockey games, and the Street DevilsTM street hockey program. Grant inspires children and adults alike with his remarkable story of recovery from a severe neck injury he suffered while playing junior hockey. Not only did he return, but he became a two-time Stanley Cup Champion in the National Hockey League. Grant spent nearly five seasons, from 2003-08, in the Devils’ organization before retiring following the 2007-08 season. He played two-plus seasons in New Jersey and two with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Lowell, MA. The Devils acquired Marshall from the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 10, 2003. He was a member of the 2003 Stanley Cup Championship squad, capturing the second Cup of his career. Grant is best remembered in Devils’ history for his Eastern Conference Semifinal series-clinching goal in triple-overtime against Tampa Bay in the 2003 playoffs. His tally ended the longest home game in Devils’ history. In 151 career games with New Jersey, he scored 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points while accumulating 144 penalty minutes. He added six goals and three assists with 16 penalty minutes in 31 playoff games. His NHL career spanned ten seasons, starting in 1995-96 with the Dallas Stars. While in Dallas, Marshall was a member of the Stars’ 1999 Stanley Cup Championship team. In exactly 700 NHL contests, he totaled 92 goals and 147 assists for 239 points and 793 penalty minutes. In 90 career playoff contests, he scored six goals and 11 assists. He was Toronto’s second choice (first round), 23rd overall in the 1992 Entry Draft.
