Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly in 2005. She is now serving her fourth term representing the 37th District. She served on the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 2001 to 2007, and was selected to serve as chair in 2003 and 2004. Ms. Vainieri Huttle sponsored the most bills signed into law by Governor Christie during the 214th Legislature, including the landmark New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights, which focuses on prevention, responsiveness, and school district accountability. She also sponsored laws establishing the Department of Children and Families, civil unions, autism awareness and prevention measures, the posting of legislative voting records on the Legislature’s website and a one-stop web portal for non-profit organizations. Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle is the lead sponsor of bistate legislation to reform the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle is serving her second term as the Chair of the Assembly Human Services Committee and served as the Co-Chair of the bipartisan and bicameral Legislative Review Panel on State Psychiatric Hospitals and Developmental Centers, created by legislation she sponsored. She has led the Human Services Committee on a tour of all of the State’s developmental centers and psychiatric facilities in an effort to enhance the Committee’s understanding of New Jersey’s complex human services system, and sponsored several measures to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, including laws to create a registry of offenders who abuse persons with special needs and to eliminate the word “retarded” from state statutes. Ms. Vainieri Huttle is a member of the Tourism & the Arts Committee and serves as an Ex-Officio member of the New Jersey State Council of the Arts. In 2003 she helped establish the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood. In 2012, Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle started a Young Women’s Leadership Program to introduce high school students in her district to government and public service. Ms. Vainieri Huttle attended Rider University and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a B.A. in English. Since 1981, she has served as president and director of Vainieri Funeral Home, a family owned business in North Bergen.

An annual walk-a-thon at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Sunday drew over 750 participants, brought awareness to breast cancer and raised more than $100,000, hospital officials said.
