Closter
the bergen.com bio
Known as the hub of Northern Valley, the village of Closter is named after Frederick Closter. Settled in 1710, this historic town witnessed various raids by both the British and Continental armies during the Revolutionary War. On Piermont Road stands the Lone Horseman monument and Closter's seal: a tribute to the man who warned General Greene at Fort Lee that the British troops were coming. In more recent times, Closter offers various modes of public transportation for New York and New Jersey commuters while maintaining its various nature centers, wildlife refuges and a recreational pond.
