Leonia and Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee is named after General Charles Lee, who camped in this area defending New York City. In fact, it was during Washington's retreat from Fort Lee in November 1776 that Thomas Paine composed his pamphlet The American Crisis, which began with the famous phrase, "These are the times that try men's souls."

The Palisades Parks Conservancy held its second annual Escape to the Palisades Half Marathon/5K Run at Ross Dock, following a path along the historic Henry Hudson Drive (River Road), one of the oldest scenic roads in the United States along the Hudson River shoreline.
