Tenafly has, in many ways, positioned itself as a monument to the breathtaking history of the area. A witness to history from the very beginning, British and American troops marched through the village during the American Revolution. A militia headquarters was also located on Tenafly Road. Later, from 1868 to 1877, feminist Elizabeth Cady Stanton would call Tenafly home. She later wrote: “I laughed at the memory of all the frolics we had on the blue hills of Jersey.”
