Like many of the surrounding areas, farms once covered most of what is now presently Wood-Ridge. That all changed when real-estate-broker-turned-developer Charles Reis set his eyes on the farmlands and brownstones of Wood-Ridge and visualized a family-friendly community with a "country" feeling within reach of the big city. Reis' first development, Sunshine City, gave prospective homebuyers of the 1920s a choice of 10 designs built in the Colonial revival style. Many of those homes still stand today.
