Chef Central in Paramus held the first round of the Ultimate Chef Bergen County Monday night. The first round was a meatball throwdown between Ninamarie Bojekian of Ooh La La Catering and Johnny DeCarlo of Johnny Meatballs. An audience of 100, with 81 ballots being cast, determined that Ninamarie Bojekian of Ooh La La Catering was the winner of the throwdown.
Both Chefs had one hour to prepare 3 dishes from 3 different regions of Italy - Abruzzo, Emiglia-Romana and Sicily. The event was filmed by Cablevision's "Neighborhood Journal" and the tape will be replayed at the Charity Di Vino wine tasting and fundraiser event on Thursday evening, Nov. 10 at the Sheraton Crossroads when the winner of the UCBC round will be announced. Ninamarie and Johnny will also be on hand to resume their meatball throwdown for the crowd, which is expected to be around 500 people.
Proceeds from this year's event go to the Center for Food Action, Meals on Wheels, Hearts and Crafts Counseling, Meaningful Movements, and Unico.
