"As we suffered through blizzard after blizzard again last winter and spring, I’m so happy we moved our Teaneck Teen Idol try outs to this fall," said Gail Smith, president of the Teaneck Community Chorus. "The year before, we had to cancel try outs twice, which made auditioning difficult. But we still had a fantastic show in 2010."
This year, the fifth anniversary of Teaneck Teen Idol should be even better. The 2011 show and contest will be held the Saturday night before Thanksgiving, Nov. 19, in the Teaneck High School auditorium. As always, the contest is open to all teens from 13 to 18 who live in Teaneck or go to school in the township.
Try outs for the contest and show are Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 4 and 5 at Teaneck High School, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in room 244 (chorus room). Auditioners will be asked to sing a song of their choice, without accompaniment, for about two minutes. Each teen who tries out should bring proof of age, proof of Teaneck residency or school attendance in Teaneck, plus $5. There will be 12 semi-finalists and all receive vocal and performance coaching in preparation for the big night. The Teaneck Teen Idol receives a significant cash prize, recording time, and free registration to the NHS Teen Idol contest.
Even better, the whole experience has been fun and supportive for all semi finalists and a great evening for everyone on show night. For more information, visit www.teaneckcommunitychorus.org or call Jack Aaker at 201-390-8683.
