Thanks to digital cameras and smartphones, everyone these days thinks he or she is an artist. Despite this, the classic art of oil painting, and especially oil portraiture, lives on.
Basil Baylin, a painter who has won many awards for his portraits, continues the tradition and teaches oil painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute.
Baylin, a Paterson-born artist, teaches oil painting with portraiture as a specialty and has painted many corporate executives, politicians and judicial figures. The oil portrait remains a symbol of success for these people.
Baylin now lives in New York City but loves to return to his roots and teach the fine art tradition at the Ridgewood Art Institute.
