Visual Arts: Paramus graphic designer wins ShopRite charity design contest
By ELYSE TORIBIO of The Record

When he's got some free time, Ognen Trpeski likes to listen to music – he's a big R&B fan. But an ambitious guy like Trpeski can't just be a casual listener, and even a hobby like this turns into recording music and putting a single up on iTunes ("Bring it Down").

So you can imagine the kind of effort the native of Macedonia puts into graphic design, his life's passion.

Just before graduating from William Paterson University in May, the Paramus resident was assigned a project in class to design a T-shirt that creatively promoted National Hunger Action Month and the supermarket's charity initiative, Partners in Caring. (The contest was also open to ShopRite customers.)

"When I design, I give 100 percent," Trpeski said. "I redid it a couple of times, made different versions on it."

He not only got an A for the version he stuck with, he won the ShopRite Knock Out Hunger contest. In addition to a $2,500 cash prize and a matching donation to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Trpeski's design will be featured on a custom-designed Cheerios box, to be sold exclusively in ShopRite stores through September.
