Close friends since college, Sandra and Stephen began dating in the spring of 2008. After a year of dating, Stephen proposed. The day after his birthday, Stephen took Sandra out on a mystery date that involved four surprises. For the first surprise, Stephen and Sandra took a helicopter tour of the city. The second surprise consisted of dinner at Brooklyn's The River Café. After dinner, Stephen said the couple would need to walk to their third surprise – but not before the coat room attendant handed Sandra a mysterious gift, to be opened at their next destination. So they walked the few blocks to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Sandra opened her gift to discover a collage of miniature photos from the couple's time together that blended together to form a larger photo of the two kissing. Then, arms around each other, Sandra and Stephen stood to watch the sunset. "I am thinking that it is so romantic and sweet that he is holding me at sunset after a fabulous day and is telling me the most beautiful things," Sandra says, "and then suddenly, he pulls away and gets on one knee. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears." To celebrate, Stephen and Sandra enjoyed champagne on a carriage ride through Central Park. "It was the perfect ending to my perfect proposal."
