Whether you're painting a portrait, writing the next great American novel or throwing a fabulous cocktail party, letting your creative side loose is thirsty work. So sip something satisfying with these simple concoctions. All you need is your favorite vodka or gin (or a clear rum – Cruzan, if you can find it), fruit juice, schnapps, liqueur or vermouth, and a cocktail shaker. Colored sugar and a fruity garnish add another splash of fun.

Construct each martini in the same way:

Chill a martini glass. Combine the liquid ingredients in a pint glass or cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain liquor into the martini glass, rimmed with sugar where appropriate. Garnish as directed.

1 ounce Limoncello
1½  ounces cranberry juice
1 ounce lemonade
½ ounce lime cordial
Pink sugar for rim

Gin Martini
2½ ounces gin
½ ounce dry vermouth
Olive (or a cocktail onion or twist of lemon) for garnish

Electric Blue Martini

1 ounce blue Curacao
1 ounce sweet and sour mix
Blue sugar for rim

Grape Pucker Martini

½ ounce triple sec or cointreau
Red grape for garnish
Purple sugar for rim

Pineapple Martini
1 ounce Cruzan pineapple rum
