Eat & Drink: La'Mezza in Englewood
By BOB PROBERT

La'Mezza is the new Lebanese fusion restaurant you'll find tucked into an upscale strip mall in Englewood. It's "fusion" because the menu combines traditional Lebanese cuisine with Mediterranean-inspired seafood dishes — and even some Italian touches thrown in for good measure. The restaurant was opened in June by co-owners Tony Nabhan and his lifelong friend, John Hanna, who were both born in Lebanon. According to Tony, "our goal was to introduce people to Lebanese cuisine and culture, and for us that really has been the most gratifying aspect of what we're doing."

Tony's father was a fashion designer in Lebanon, and it's clear, looking at the stylish dining room, that some talent was passed along. The walls are textured gold and black, with velvet flocked wallpaper accents. The plaster ceiling and railroad rafters, says Tony, are meant to evoke a vintage look from their homeland. And the emblem of a cedar tree that hangs on the wall and is part of the restaurant's logo is inspired by the Lebanese flag.
