* UCBC Qualification Round and Meatball Throwdown: Chef Ninamarie Bojekian of Ooh La La Catering in Franklin Lakes and Johnny DeCarlo (otherwise known as Johnny Meatballs) of Moonachie will square off at 6 tonight in a qualification round for the fifth annual Ultimate Chef Bergen County at Chef Central in Paramus. Both chefs will have one hour to prepare three dishes from three different regions of Italy, which will be judged by Record Food Editor Susan Leigh Sherrill, Rosie Saferstein of NJ Monthly and John Piliouras, chef of Nisi in Englewood. The contestants will also compete in a meatball throwdown, judged by the audience. * Madeleine's Petit Paris Oktoberfest buffet: The restaurant may be French, but owners Gaspard and Madeleine Caloz are getting into the seasonal spirit with an Oktoberfest buffet at 1 p.m. Sunday. The menu will include Swiss knockwurst salad, sauerbraten, choucroute, red cabbage, spaetzle, bratwurst, weisswurst, pork schnitzel, knockwurst, pig knuckle, apple and raisin strudel, plum tart, Black Forest cake and more. * Halloween family fun day: On Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., several A&P and Waldbaum's stores will host a "Howl'oween" family fun day costume event sponsored by the Nestlé Family of Brands.
