Triple chocolate cake.

Alberto Dautaj started his American restaurant career in a former luncheonette in Teaneck, then moved on to open bigger dining rooms in Ringwood and West Milford. But the Albanian native and Oakland resident always wanted to return to Bergen, remembering all of the customers who would drive to his restaurant from the Tenafly-Englewood area. So this year, he seized the opportunity to buy the former Segreto restaurant in Tenafly.

It's now called Zana D, after his daughter, whom you may find working for her father on weekends. Dautaj's son, Labinot, helps run the dining room, overseeing a team of formally dressed waiters who scurry around tending to customers.

Dautaj changed only a few things from the Segreto days — the most significant change he made to the dining room was to add doors dividing off a room in the back, which can be used for a party or for anyone who wants more privacy. One evening, we saw him heading back there with a group that included an infant.
