Four oft-overlooked wines from Italy.

Italy's Marche and Abruzzo regions are neighbors. They share the same soil, some of the same grapes, and the same tiny, often-overlooked shelf in the store. Abruzzo does have an edge in popularity, though. Take Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. This crisp, quaffable white made primarily from the widely planted trebbiano grape has a much greater presence here than, say, Marche's pecorino, a low-yielding grape most notably grown in Marche's high altitude Offida DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata). It produces a wonderfully fragrant white, that's a rarity in retail stores, except for the Saladini Pilastri described below.

As for reds, maybe you've heard of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo...
