The Roman statesman-philosopher Cicero once wrote that “a room without books is like a body without a soul.”

A group of about 60 volunteers Friday packed plenty of soul into the gymnasium of Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood as they unloaded and sorted about 35,000 books donated by 21 Bergen County schools for use by teachers in Newark and Englewood.

The book drive was inspired by Project Cicero, a non-profit that has been helping donate new and gently used books to about 120 schools in the New York City school system for the last 12 years.
