On a day that saw scattered power outages and water restrictions due in part to a blistering triple-digit heat index, one Ridgewood family decided they could take the heat, so they took their kitchen outdoors.

It was a slow start to the ski season Monday at Campgaw Mountain, after a mild December weather stalled snowmaking and delayed opening day.
