The butterflies were waiting Sunday morning, right on cue for the start of the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s butterfly day at DeKorte Park. Parents walked with children on guided tours while aficionados snapped pictures of butterflies rested on the plants in the park’s main entrance.
“If you’re seeing butterflies, it means it’s a beautiful, sunny day,” said Jim Wright, communications officer for the Meadowlands Commission. “It means you’re in a good spot.”
While families and others were able to take in the winged-wonders under a blue sky, butterfly day also was a showcase of the environmental restoration that’s transformed the Meadowlands from a dump into a sanctuary.
