In addition to the five new floats, this year’s parade includes two new balloons. Sonic the Hedgehog and Julius the Monkey will both take to the air for the first time. The new floats include one dedicated to the Zhu Zhu Pets and one dedicated to the Statue of Liberty.

Standing in the stables, next to a gentle horse named Milo, everything seems so placid. I sidle up next to Milo, stroking his forehead, his cheek, his chest. If this is the horse that will carry me down a trail for a 30-minute horseback ride — the first of my life — I better introduce myself.
