Westwood is a friendly suburban community with a bustling downtown that provides goods and services not only to its own residents, but to the surrounding municipalities.
Prior to the Revolutionary War, Westwood was primarily farm land. Its first permanent settlers arrived in the mid-1700s. In April 1870, Isaac Bogert purchased 500 acres of land and moved his family from the city, establishing residence in the area. The Bogert family was to become one of the more prominent families in the history of Westwood, and today, the Bogert name can still be found on streets, buildings and landmarks in the borough.
When the holiday season rolls around, downtown Westwood lights up for the annual HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS celebration, which includes a parade and tree-lighting ceremony and a visit from Santa.
The WESTWOOD HERITAGE SOCIETY sponsors an annual crafters fair in Veterans Park and an antique fair in late summer. The society also sponsors an annual Westwood Pride Day celebration.
