St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday celebrated around the world to honor the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. It's also a day to watch a parade and have some fun. If you are planning to host a St. Patrick's Day party this year, look no further than Irish Eyes Imports of Westwood and Celtic Kitchen of New Milford.
Irish Eyes is a unique Irish gift store whose products come from Ireland. Owners Tara and Gene Callaghan handpick every item, looking for quality and uniqueness.
Since moving their store to Westwood in 2010, they have now a broader selection of products from Ireland. Some of the new products added are Stephen Pearce and Nicolas Mosse pottery, as well as a new collection of candles and soaps and an expanded line of jewelry. Customers will also find quality linens as well as beautiful, modern clothing for men and women.
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year, the Callaghans called on chef Kim Phelan of Celtic Kitchen. Nestled in a tiny strip mall in New Milford and owned by Anthony Piselli, Celtic Kitchen is a wonderful Irish delicatessen and caterer. Phelan's upscale Irish menu is authentic yet unique in texture and flavor. The evening begins with a silky potato leek soup, stuffed mushrooms and Irish sausage rolls with a brown chef sauce. Classic main dish and sides of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, turnips and shepherd's pie are rich, savory and full of flavor. And to finish the night, homemade desserts included individual mince pies with custard and fresh raspberries, scones and Irish soda bread with pure Irish butter.
Fun, authentic and delicious!
