YWCA Bergen County hosted its first Racial Justice awards ceremony at World of Wings butterfly museum & atrium in Teaneck, recognizing Theodora Lacey and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (Bergen/Passaic Chapter), honoring the rich history of civil rights and community service in Bergen County.
Guests enjoyed a culinary experience with hor d’oeuvres by Chef Kenneth Collins, wine education by Sommeilier Dennis Bullock, and jazz by the Tom Papadatos Trio.
In future years the award will be known as the Theodora Lacey Racial Justice Award in honor of its first recipient.
The Theodora Lacey Racial Justice Award was created in observance of April’s National YWCA "Stand Against Racism" movement, recognizing individuals, businesses or organizations that have demonstrated leadership by working to eliminate racism and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people.
A portion of the evening’s proceeds went to benefit the Bergen County Martin Luther King Jr. Monument Committee.
