The Apollo Theater recently hosted one wild party in honor of "Godfather of Funk" George Clinton and run by Teaneck resident and musical director Ray Chew.

Absolute Funk: An Interstellar Trip to Honor the Godfather of Funk featured wild guest stars, infectious music and more funk than you could shake a sax at. Chew, the musical director of American Idol and Showtime at the Apollo, directed the concert, part of the "STAT! For New York City’s Public Hospitals!" series.

Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell, two original members of Clinton's supergroup, Parliament-Funkadelic, reunited for the evening and were joined by a great assortment of musical artists who have been influenced by Clinton’s career. Sheila E., Paul Shaffer, Nona Hendryx, Doug E. Fresh, Kim Burrell and many more performed throughout the night.

Chew's wife, Vivian Scott Chew, co-created the show. As part of STAT!, the Oct. 25 event benefited New York City's public healthcare facilities.
