THE ANSWER: Prior to opening its new Paramus Park mall on March 14, 1974, mall developers The Rouse Company had poor response, three years earlier, for their innovative "food court" concept at their Plymouth Meeting Mall in Pennsylvania. But with its larger second-story space, the expanded food court at Paramus Park proved extremely popular and spawned countless other centrally contained eating areas in malls across the country.
