Young musicians looking to become the next Jordin Sparks or Kris Allen took the stage at bergenPAC last night for the 7th annual “Englewood Idol” competition. Students from Dwight Morrow High School, Dwight-Englewood School, Academies @ Englewood, and Bergen Catholic High School faced off in an event fashioned after the popular television show “American Idol.”
More than 30 students tried out and 12 semi-finalists were selected. This year’s contestants were Dasia Capers, Alondra Kelly and Chadwyck Linwood from Dwight Morrow; Heather Braverman, Gina Marie Enriquez, Julia Kim and Sarah Kim from Dwight-Englewood; Ty Charles from Bergen Catholic; and Alyssa Plan, Dorothea Smith and Melanie Sunga from the Academies. Brian Park to home first place, Alondra Kelly came in second and Gina Marie Enriquez finished third.
The event also featured “Englewood’s Best Dance Crew,” a competition dance team from the city’s three high schools. The evening benefited the Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund and was sponsored by The Northern Valley Suburbanite, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, NVE Bank, PNC Bank, Mindy Gold Designs and 25 Park.
